Funding will support a major upgrade of the full school playground, including a metal storage shed, large-scale portable play items such as giant chess and draughts, skipping ropes, balance boards, cricket sets, foam building blocks, tumble tower blocks, giant board games and playground scooters, as well as outdoor benches to enhance social spaces and outdoor learning.
“After the success of improvements made to the P1/2 and nursery playgrounds, we want to significantly improve the outdoor play and social environment for the whole school. Our children have expressed a strong desire for more activities and equipment to support meaningful, active and social break times. We believe this investment will strengthen wellbeing, help children develop friendships, and make break and lunchtimes a positive, purposeful part of the school day.
At present, equipment storage is far from the main playground, limiting what children can access. A dedicated storage facility and versatile play resources will allow pupils to set up activities safely and independently, promoting leadership and teamwork.
The new outdoor benches will provide inclusive social and learning spaces and support outdoor learning across the curriculum. As this area connects to the community centre, the wider community will also benefit.”
