What is the Community & Coast Fund?

The Community & Coast Fund helps local groups in Torry and Cove put their ideas into action. Each year, £100,000 is set aside to support projects that make a real difference.

There are two levels of funding:

- Up to £3,000 for smaller, practical projects (available to groups with income up to £50,000)
- Up to £10,000 for larger ambitions.

Unconstituted community groups can also apply for up to £3,000 if they partner with a constituted organisation and manage funding through that partnership.

The Fund focuses on capital projects — things like equipment, improvements to shared spaces, or resources that the community can benefit from for years to come. Limited one-off costs (e.g. volunteer expenses, marketing, or staff time during project setup) can be covered, but the Fund does not support ongoing running costs.

What we can fund

The Fund supports capital projects that bring real benefits to community groups in Torry and Cove. Examples include:

- New equipment to support local activities
- Adaptations or improvements to community spaces and land.
- Items that create opportunities for people to meet, learn, and enjoy time together.

Last year, grants funded projects such as Cove Thistle AFC’s purchase of new landscaping equipment, Loirston Parent Council’s school grounds improvement scheme, Lochside Academy’s internal courtyard development, and the installation of new signage at Altens Community Centre, and also supported other initiatives that enhanced shared spaces.

How decisions are made

The Fund uses Participatory Budgeting, an approach that puts decision making in the hands of local people. After applications are assessed, residents of Torry and Cove will be invited to vote for the projects they most want to see happen. Only local postcodes will be eligible to vote, ensuring decisions remain community led.
